About our school

6th form

Very few students go straight to employment after GCSE examinations.  Most stay on in the Sixth Form and take advantage of the wide range of courses provided.  We aim to give students greater responsibility for their own studies and to encourage independence, whilst ensuring structures are in place to monitor attendance and to encourage good practice with regard to private study.

Years 12 and 13

We offer a wide range of subjects at AS and A2 Level, together with Key Skills and a General Studies programme.  Most students study 4 subjects at AS Level in the Lower Sixth, leading to 3 subjects at A2 Level in the Upper Sixth.  They make their choice in consultation with parents and staff.  An information evening in the Spring Term allows discussion of subject choices and gives Year 11 students the opportunity to talk to Sixth Form students who are currently studying the subjects that they are considering.

Wide Range of Subjects on Offer

Subjects currently on offer are Art & Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Classical Civilisation, Drama & Theatre Studies, English, English Literature, French, Geography, German, Government & Politics, History, Home Economics, Human Biology, Information Technology, Latin, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Spanish.

Key Skills Programme

The Key Skills programme will allow students to attain credits for their skills in Communication and ICT.  All students follow a General Studies course which includes a Personal, Social & Health Education programme, General Lecture sessions with invited speakers and conferences held in conjunction with Gravesend Grammar School and other appropriate local educational institutions.  This leads to an additional AS Level subject in the Lower Sixth.

We have high expectations of our Sixth Form students, asking for not only GCSE qualifications in the relevant subjects but also a commitment to study and a willingness to make a positive contribution to the life of the school and the wider community.

Senior Officials

They are involved in running clubs, helping younger students with their studies, and in coaching school teams.  There are opportunities for them to become Senior Officials with specific responsibilities for tutor groups and for other aspects of school life, such as the Green Council, Charity events and Helpliners, who talk to younger students with problems.
